I have been on an amazing journey the past few years and I can honestly say that I am creating the life I truly desire. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are things I still want to do, accomplish, and have in my life. But overall I have a sense of deep satisfaction at this point that I wasn’t sure I would ever achieve.
Each of us is unique and the journey will be different accordingly. And there’s a common first step that anyone who is ready to create the life they desire can take.
It’s stepping into the practice of self awareness.
I call it a practice because it’s about remembering pay attention. And in this fast paced life it’s easy to get sidetracked and forget, so it takes lots of practice to make it a habit.
What does it mean to pay attention and what does it have to do with spring cleaning?
Try this. Think about something you do that you feel really good about. It could be finishing a project, planting a garden, writing a poem, balancing your checkbook , baking a cake, or spending time with your kids. Anything you do where you lose track of time. Close your eyes and imagine yourself in that place again and pay attention to how your body feels.
Do you feel any of these: light, full, expanded, powerful, or magical?
Now think of something that is not particularly pleasant but that you feel you have to or should do. This could be your job or something you do at work, it could be something you have volunteered to do, or even something you’re good at. Again put yourself in your body and pay attention to how it feels.
Do you feel heavy, contracted, small, inadequate, anxious, or full of dread?
How do you choose to feel? I have found that if I pay attention to my body when I’m about to take something on, my body knows the answer before my mind does. So I have learned to pause before saying ‘yes’ to requests of me find out what my body says. If I feel dread or heaviness, I will usually say no.
The great thing about saying NO is that it opens the place for what I want to say YES to! Kind of like spring cleaning.
Try it out for yourself...it’s as easy as paying attention!
What can you say NO to this month? Are you willing to clean out one thing you think you HAVE to do and say YES to what’s right for you?
